Canas planning to open a tennis academy

Former top ten player Guillermo Canas decieded it's better to buy then sell (matches), so he bought a condominium on Brickell Avenue. He now plans to open a tennis academy on Key Biscane.

Along with partners Gustavo Oribe, a former FIU player, and former tour pro Martin Garcia, Canas has submitted plans to the Miami-Dade County Commission for an academy, that would be a training place as well for the juniors as for the pro's.

''This seems like the perfect place for a tennis academy, and there really isn't anything like it down here. We want it to have a warm, family-like atmosphere, where everyone who loves tennis can feel welcome. We'd have beginners programs, senior programs, programs for college players, and for pros.'' - Canas said.

"I thought about doing this in Argentina, but Miami seems more logical." - he added.

The Argentinian isn't having a great year so far, as he's struggling not only on court, but also outside of it. He won only one match out of the four he contested this season. His loss against Antonio Veic in Zagreb made heavy headlines as Canas was accused of intentionally losing this one. More on that HERE.

After all those struggles it's no wonder, that the Argentinian is thinking of retireing after this season. He could then fully concentrate on the academy and dedicate himself to the project.

Let's just hope Guillermo will not be teaching the kids, how to make a fortune by selling matches...
